Bill Kahan Kapri, born Dieuson Octave on June 11, 1997, in Pompano Beach, Florida, is widely known by his stage name, Kodak Black. He emerged as a prominent figure in rap music with his distinctive sound and style, blending elements of hip-hop, trap, and bass. Kodak Black first gained attention in 2014 with his track “No Flockin,” which became a sleeper hit and helped him secure a recording contract with Atlantic Records. The song, which was later certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), marked his first significant entry on the Billboard Hot 100, solidifying his place in the music industry.

In 2016, he faced accusations of rape in South Carolina, which led to a plea bargain in 2021 for a lesser offense, resulting in probation. Kodak Black’s legal issues further escalated in 2019 when he was sentenced to nearly four years in federal prison for making false statements to possess weapons. President Donald Trump commuted his sentence in 2021.

During his incarceration, Kodak Black released his third album, Bill Israel (2020), which saw less commercial attention. However, his 2021 single “Super Gremlin” achieved a commercial resurgence, reaching number three on the Billboard Hot 100 and featuring on his fourth album, Back for Everything (2022). The album debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 and was followed by his fifth and sixth albums, Pistolz & Pearlz and When I Was Dead, both released in 2023. Kodak Black’s 2021 releases also included the mixtape Haitian Boy Kodak, which celebrated his Haitian heritage and received mixed reactions, and Happy Birthday Kodak, released on his twenty-fourth birthday.
