Kim Ki-bum, better known by his stage name KEY, was born on September 23, 1991, in Daegu, South Korea. He is a multifaceted South Korean singer, actor, fashion designer, and television personality. KEY’s career took off when he joined SM Entertainment after passing an audition in 2005. His big break came in May 2008 when he debuted as a member of the popular boy band Shinee, which would go on to become one of the most successful and best-selling K-pop groups in South Korea. As a member of Shinee, KEY gained recognition for his vocal and dance abilities, contributing to the group’s diverse music and performances.

KEY quickly ventured into various creative fields beyond singing. In 2012, he made his acting debut in the Korean production of the Broadway musical Catch Me If You Can, where he played the role of Frank Abagnale Jr. This marked the beginning of a successful theatrical career, with roles in musicals such as Bonnie & Clyde (2013), Zorro (2014), and Chess (2015). His performances on stage demonstrated his versatility as an artist and solidified his status as a rising star in the Korean musical theater scene. In addition to his theatrical work, KEY took on roles in television dramas, such as his official acting debut in Drinking Solo (2016) and a notable role in The Guardians (2017), earning positive reviews for his performances.

As a solo artist, KEY debuted in November 2018 with the release of the digital single “Forever Yours,” featuring Soyou. Shortly after, he released his first studio album, Face, which showcased his distinct musical style and artistic identity. The album’s lead single, “One of Those Nights,” featured singer Crush and received widespread acclaim. His solo debut was followed by the release of his first Japanese extended play Hologram in December 2018, further highlighting his global appeal. KEY continued to explore his musical talent with his 2019 repackage album I Wanna Be, which featured collaborations with artists like Hanhae and Soyeon of (G)I-dle.

Beyond music and acting, KEY has made a name for himself in the fashion industry. Known for his keen sense of style, he became involved in designing Shinee’s concert outfits and collaborated with brands like Charm’s. He later worked as a fashion director for Shinee, establishing his reputation as a fashion-forward celebrity. KEY’s influence in the fashion world has earned him several collaborations and projects that highlight his unique aesthetic.

Since 2020, KEY has gained prominence as a television personality, appearing on variety shows such as DoReMi Market and I Live Alone. His sharp wit, humor, and engaging personality have made him a fan favorite, earning him recognition at the MBC Entertainment Awards for his variety show performances. In addition to his television work, KEY continues to release music, with his second studio album Gasoline in 2022, followed by a reissue titled Killer in 2023. His most recent release, the extended play Good & Great in September 2023, continues to build on his successful career as one of South Korea’s most versatile entertainers.
