Key Glock

Markeyvius LaShun Cathey, known professionally as Key Glock, was born on August 3, 1997, in South Memphis, Tennessee. Raised in a tough environment, Glock was primarily cared for by his grandmother and great-grandmother after his mother was incarcerated when he was just 20 months old. Despite these challenges, Glock found solace in music at a young age, beginning his journey by freestyling over Future’s “Ain’t No Way Around It” at the age of 12.

Key Glock’s music career took off in 2017 when he signed with Paper Route Empire, the label founded by his late cousin, the influential rapper Young Dolph. That same year, he dropped his debut mixtape Glock Season, followed by Glock Bond in 2018 and Glockoma later that year. His first studio album, Yellow Tape (2020), reached number 14 on the Billboard 200 and earned gold certification from the RIAA. The sequel, Yellow Tape 2 (2021), climbed to number seven on the chart, with the hit single “Ambition for Cash” propelling his popularity. His 2023 album Glockoma 2 included the successful track “Let’s Go,” marking his second entry on the Billboard Hot 100.

Key Glock’s music is marked by raw, unfiltered lyrics that reflect his Memphis upbringing, touching on themes of perseverance, street life, and resilience. In the wake of Young Dolph’s tragic passing in 2021, Glock honored his cousin’s memory with heartfelt tracks like “Proud.”
