About KANON

Kanon (カノン) is a Japanese singer-songwriter celebrated for her unique blend of classical and contemporary pop music. Born on March 9, 1980, in Tokyo, she developed a deep connection to music from a young age. By 13, she was already singing in choirs, where she fell in love with the sounds of classical composers like Handel and Chopin—an influence that would later define her musical identity.

Her official debut came in 2003 with the release of Alleluia -Piano & Voice-, a mini-album that highlighted her skills as both a vocalist and pianist. Over the next few years, she continued to evolve her sound through projects like Hymn of Grace (2004) and Primary Flowers (2005). But it was her 2006 single Brand New Breeze—featured as the opening theme for the anime Kin’iro no Corda Primo Passo—that introduced her music to a broader audience, blending her classical roots with the emotional pull of modern J-pop.

Kanon has also collaborated with renowned composers such as Saint-Preux and Francesco Sartori, further enriching her musical palette. Her 2007 album Sanctuary stands as a testament to her ability to seamlessly merge classical pieces from composers like Elgar and Debussy with contemporary stylings. Her international presence grew when she performed as a guest vocalist in the Final Fantasy Distant Worlds concert in Sydney in 2011, singing beloved tracks like “Suteki Da Ne.”

Known for her elegance and artistic sincerity, Kanon continues to craft music that bridges past and present, classical and pop—earning her a loyal following both in Japan and worldwide.
