About Junior H
Antonio Herrera Pérez, professionally known as Junior H, is a trailblazing Mexican singer-songwriter born on April 23, 2001, in the small town of Cerano, located in the municipality of Yuriria, Guanajuato, Mexico. Junior H has become a significant figure in the corridos tumbados movement, a genre that blends traditional Mexican corridos with elements of urban music like trap and reggaeton. His innovative approach has earned him a prominent spot in the Latin music scene, where he is recognized for his emotionally charged lyrics and unique sound.
Growing up in Cerano, Junior H developed a passion for music at a young age. Along with a friend, he began writing lyrics at the age of 12, even though neither of them knew how to play any instruments at the time. His early life in Mexico laid the foundation for his deep connection to the themes he would later explore in his music, such as love, heartbreak, and the struggles of life. At 15, Junior H and his family moved to the United States, settling in Utah, where he faced the challenges of adapting to a new culture and environment. Despite these challenges, he continued to nurture his musical talent, teaching himself to play the guitar and accordion by watching YouTube tutorials.
While in high school, Junior H worked at a local Wendy’s restaurant to support himself. During his spare time, he would write songs and experiment with recording music. In a bold move, he decided to upload his music to YouTube under the moniker “Junior H” without informing his friends or family. To his surprise, one of his early songs, “No He Cambiado,” went viral, amassing millions of views within a short period. The overwhelming response to his music motivated him to pursue a career in the industry more seriously.
His viral success caught the attention of Jimmy Humilde, the founder of the independent record label Rancho Humilde. Junior H soon signed with the label, where he met fellow Mexican singer Natanael Cano, a pioneer of the corridos tumbados genre. The two artists quickly became frequent collaborators, further popularizing the genre with tracks like “Disfruto lo Malo” and “Ella.” Junior H’s debut album, Mi Vida en un Cigarro (2019), marked the beginning of his official career and featured the hit song “No He Cambiado.”
In 2020, Junior H released Atrapado en un Sueño, which included some of his most recognized songs, such as the title track “Atrapado en un Sueño” and “Mente Positiva.” The album’s success propelled him to the top of the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart, establishing him as a major player in Latin music. Over the following years, Junior H continued to release a series of successful albums, including Cruisin’ with Junior H, Musica <3, and $ad Boyz 4 Life.
Junior H’s music is deeply rooted in the corridos tradition, yet it is infused with contemporary influences from Latin trap and reggaeton. His lyrics often reflect personal and universal themes, from romantic relationships to the challenges of life in a new country. With a growing discography and a loyal fan base, Junior H has solidified his place as one of the leading artists in the corridos tumbados movement, pushing the boundaries of the genre while staying true to his roots.
