Jul, born Julien Mari on January 14, 1990, in Marseille, France, is a highly successful rapper, singer, and producer known for his prolific work and unique style. Growing up in the Saint-Jean-du-Désert neighborhood of Marseille, Jul began rapping at just 12 years old. His passion for music was complemented by a brief stint in the youth team of Olympique de Marseille between the ages of 14 and 16. After leaving school at 17, Jul worked with his father in pool construction but soon decided to pursue music full-time.

In 2007, Jul joined the rap collective Ghetto Phénomène, where he began producing his own tracks. His debut single, “Sors le cross volé,” was released in November 2013, followed by his first album, Dans ma paranoïa, in February 2014. The album achieved platinum status, marking the beginning of his rapid rise in the French rap scene.

Jul’s career has been defined by an impressive release schedule, with multiple albums often dropping each year. In 2015, he founded his own label, D’Or et de Platine, after leaving Liga One Industry. His album My World (2015) went diamond, and by 2020, he had sold over 4 million albums. This number rose to 5.5 million by 2022, making him one of the best-selling French rap artists.

Beyond music, Jul has sponsored his hometown football club, Olympique de Marseille, and in 2024, he had the honor of lighting the Olympic cauldron during the Paris 2024 torch relay. Known for blending rap with dance beats, reggaeton, and baile funk, Jul’s music continues to resonate with a diverse and loyal fanbase, solidifying his place as a key figure in French music.
