About Juancho De La Espriella

Juan Mario De la Espriella, better known as Juancho De la Espriella, is a renowned Colombian accordionist and producer whose name is synonymous with modern vallenato. Born on February 26, 1973, in Sincelejo, Sucre, music was always part of his life. His mother played piano, and his father frequently hosted gatherings filled with vallenato legends like Poncho Zuleta and Alejandro Durán — a childhood backdrop that shaped his musical path.

At the age of 13, Juancho got his first accordion, igniting a passion that quickly turned into a lifelong career. By 18, he was already recording albums with singer Miguel Cabrera, gaining early experience even if mainstream success came later.

Juancho’s big break came through collaborations with vallenato’s biggest stars. His work with Silvestre Dangond on albums like Ponte a la Moda, La Fama, and No Me Compares Con Nadie elevated both of their careers. The latter album even achieved Diamond status in Colombia — a rare feat in the genre. He later joined forces with Martín Elías, producing hits like Por Ti and El Amor Llegó, and paying tribute to the late Diomedes Díaz with La Historia Continúa.

Offstage, Juancho has been candid about personal struggles, including overcoming substance abuse, adding a layer of depth and resilience to his public persona.

Today, Juancho De la Espriella is not just a master of the accordion — he’s a pillar of modern vallenato, celebrated for blending tradition with innovation and keeping the soul of Colombian music alive.
