Jon Batiste

Jon Batiste, born on November 11, 1986, in Metairie, Louisiana, is a celebrated American musician, composer, and television personality. Coming from the esteemed Batiste musical family of New Orleans, Jon’s exposure to music began early, initially performing percussion with his family’s band, the Batiste Brothers Band. By the age of 11, he switched his focus to piano, later refining his skills at the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City, where he earned both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in jazz studies.

In 2005, Batiste released his debut album, Times in New Orleans, and formed the band Stay Human. The group quickly became known for their lively and impromptu subway performances in New York City, earning a dedicated following. His career took a major leap when he became the bandleader and musical director for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert from 2015 to 2022, where Stay Human’s vibrant energy delighted audiences nightly.

Jon Batiste’s versatility as an artist shines in his film compositions, notably for the Pixar film Soul (2020), for which he co-composed the score, winning an Academy Award, BAFTA, and Grammy Award. His 2021 album, We Are, was critically acclaimed and won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 2022.
