John Legend

John Legend, born John Roger Stephens on December 28, 1978, in Springfield, Ohio, is a highly acclaimed American singer, songwriter, pianist, and record producer. Raised in a musical family, he began playing the piano at age four and singing in his church choir by age seven. He went on to graduate magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania in 1999, earning a degree in English with a focus on African-American literature.

After college, Legend honed his craft as a session musician, contributing to tracks by artists such as Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys, and Jay-Z. His breakthrough came when he became the first artist signed to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music label, leading to the release of his debut album Get Lifted in 2004.
