Thom Yorke, born Thomas Edward Yorke on October 7, 1968, in Wellingborough, England, is a genre-defying artist best known as the enigmatic frontman of Radiohead. With his haunting falsetto, introspective lyrics, and restless creativity, Yorke has become one of the most influential voices in modern music.

He formed Radiohead with classmates at Abingdon School in Oxfordshire, and the band shot to fame with their 1992 single “Creep.” But it was their fearless experimentation on albums like OK Computer and Kid A that redefined the possibilities of rock, blending electronic, classical, and ambient influences into something entirely new.

Outside of Radiohead, Yorke has forged a solo path that reflects his deep curiosity and artistic courage. His albums—The Eraser (2006), Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes (2014), and Anima (2019)—explore themes of isolation, surveillance, and existential anxiety through layered synths and fractured beats. He also formed Atoms for Peace, a supergroup with Flea and Nigel Godrich, and more recently, The Smile with Jonny Greenwood and Tom Skinner.

Yorke’s creative reach extends into film, scoring Luca Guadagnino’s Suspiria (2018) and Confidenza (2024). His collaborations with Björk, Flying Lotus, and Burial reveal his deep respect for sonic innovation.

Beyond music, Yorke is an outspoken advocate for environmental and political causes. Known for his disdain of industry norms, he helped pioneer the “pay-what-you-want” release of In Rainbows, reshaping how artists and fans interact.

Now in 2025, with a new collaborative album Tall Tales alongside Mark Pritchard, Yorke continues to push artistic boundaries, proving he’s never been content to stay in one place.
