Jay Melody

Jay Melody, born Sharif Said Juma on June 12, 1997, in Mwananyamala, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, is a renowned Bongo Flava singer, songwriter, and musician. Growing up as the youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. Said Juma, Jay showed an early passion for music that would later shape his career. He began his education at Muhalitani Primary School in Tandale and continued at Bunju A Secondary School before embarking on his musical journey.

In 2016, Jay Melody took a significant step in his career by joining the Tanzania House of Talent (THT), where he honed his musical skills. Shortly after, he signed with Epic Records Tanzania, a label founded by the late entertainment mogul Ruge Mutahaba. Jay’s breakthrough came in 2018 with the release of his debut single, “Goroka,” followed by writing the hit song “Kivuruge” for Nandy. His rise to fame was further solidified with hits like “Namwaga Mboga,” “Mikogo Sio,” and “Zeze.” His 2023 release, “Nakupenda,” surpassed 75 million streams on Boomplay, marking a significant achievement in his career.

Along with his singles, Jay Melody has also contributed to albums like Mapoz, in collaboration with Diamond Platnumz, and Mbali Nawe (2023). These projects have helped establish him as one of Tanzania’s most promising musical talents, blending unique Bongo Flava rhythms with modern sounds.
