Joshua Christian Nanai, better known by his stage name Jawsh 685, was born on November 4, 2002, in Auckland, New Zealand. Growing up in the South Auckland suburb of Manurewa, he is of Samoan and Cook Islander descent, with the “685” in his name representing Samoa’s international dialing code—a nod to his cultural heritage.

Jawsh’s musical journey began in his teenage years at Manurewa High School, where he started crafting beats in his bedroom. His big break came in 2019 with the release of “Laxed (Siren Beat),” a track that quickly went viral on TikTok and sparked a worldwide dance trend. His growing popularity caught the attention of American singer Jason Derulo, leading to a collaboration on the 2020 remix of the track, titled “Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat).” The remix went on to top charts in countries like the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, propelling Jawsh into the global spotlight.

Riding the wave of success, Jawsh continued to build on his momentum, working with major artists like BTS and Bebe Rexha for a new remix of “Savage Love.” His unique fusion of Pacific Island rhythms with contemporary pop has resonated strongly with younger audiences, marking him as a rising star in the global music scene. From his bedroom studio to international acclaim, Jawsh 685’s story is one of talent, perseverance, and a deep connection to his roots.
