Jaquain Sloan is a highly regarded bassoonist and contrabassoonist, celebrated for his deep, resonant tone and captivating performances. Originally from Lenoir, North Carolina, Jaquain began his musical journey as a percussionist before discovering the bassoon at the age of 15. Under the mentorship of Saxton Rose at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, he developed a strong foundation in classical music, setting the stage for his future career as a prominent woodwind musician.

He earned his Bachelor of Music in Bassoon Performance from the Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins University, where he studied under Phillip Kolker. Later, Jaquain furthered his education at the University of Southern California, obtaining a Master of Music and a Performer’s Certificate. His academic background has been instrumental in shaping his unique approach to music and his success as a professional bassoonist.

Throughout his career, Sloan has performed with some of the most prestigious orchestras in the United States, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and Detroit Symphony Orchestra. As a Bassoon Fellow with the Detroit Symphony, Jaquain has also participated in the Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s Diversity Fellowship Program, solidifying his reputation as a versatile and in-demand musician.

Beyond his orchestral work, Jaquain is also an accomplished vocalist, performing with groups like Tonality and the L.A. Choral Lab. He uses his Instagram profile, @quainyq, to share his musical journey and connect with his audience, offering a glimpse into the life of a dedicated artist.
