About ILLIT (아일릿)
ILLIT (아일릿) is a South Korean girl group formed by BELIFT LAB, a subsidiary of HYBE, through the competitive JTBC survival show R U Next?. Officially debuting on March 25, 2024, with their first extended play (EP) Super Real Me, the five-member lineup includes Yunah, Minju, Moka, Wonhee, and Iroha. The group’s name, a blend of “I Will” and “It,” embodies their adventurous spirit and determination to forge their own path in the music industry. This emphasis on self-discovery and endless potential aligns with ILLIT’s concept of youthful confidence and innovation. Initially planned as a six-member group, the lineup shifted when Youngseo, a member from the pre-debut team, exited in January 2024. Despite this change, ILLIT moved forward as a unified quintet, making waves with their dynamic debut.
The group’s first EP, Super Real Me, features the lead single “Magnetic” and showcases a blend of vibrant, catchy tracks, including “My World,” “Midnight Fiction,” and “Lucky Girl Syndrome.” Produced with input from HYBE chairman Bang Si-hyuk, the album quickly gained attention for its polished sound and relatable themes. “Magnetic,” a vibrant pop track, performed exceptionally well globally, marking ILLIT as one of the most promising rookie groups in K-pop. Eight days after debut, “Magnetic” entered four U.S. Billboard charts, and ILLIT became the first K-pop group to debut on the UK Official Singles Chart, peaking at number 80. This rapid international success reflects their ability to connect with fans across cultural boundaries. On April 16, 2024, ILLIT became the fastest K-pop act to enter the Billboard Hot 100 when “Magnetic” debuted at number 91, making history as the first debut song by a K-pop group to reach the prestigious chart.
The group’s concept merges sophistication with youthful energy, evident in their appearance at the Acne Studios show during Paris Fashion Week before their official debut. This showcase positioned ILLIT as a fashion-forward act, marking them as the first K-pop artists to grace this event. As the buzz around their image and sound grew, Super Real Me entered the Billboard 200 at number 93, solidifying ILLIT’s presence in the U.S. market. The group also peaked at number 41 on the Billboard Artist 100 chart and secured the second spot on the Emerging Artist chart, demonstrating their impact as rising stars.
ILLIT’s fans, officially named “GLLIT,” are inspired by the word “glitter” to signify how their support adds sparkle to the group’s journey. The group’s fanbase has become a critical factor in their early success, helping propel them to multiple chart milestones and streaming records. ILLIT’s music video for “Lucky Girl Syndrome,” released shortly after “Magnetic,” continued to captivate audiences with its blend of storytelling and catchy choreography. Billboard named ILLIT as its first-ever “K-Pop Rookie of the Month” in June 2024, recognizing their remarkable debut.
Following their initial success, ILLIT released their second EP I’ll Like You on October 21, 2024, with a comeback showcase held two days later. The album expands their thematic scope, exploring love, self-acceptance, and ambition. ILLIT’s rapid rise reflects their appeal as artists unafraid to embrace versatility and boldness, resonating with fans worldwide. With their fresh, adventurous spirit and dedicated fandom, ILLIT is poised to make a lasting impact on the K-pop industry and beyond.
