I Cani

I Cani is the musical project led by Niccolò Contessa, an Italian singer-songwriter and producer from Rome. Emerging in 2010, the project quickly made a name for itself with its distinctive mix of indie pop, synth-pop, and electropop, all tied together by catchy melodies and thought-provoking lyrics.

Before launching I Cani, Contessa had explored various musical paths, including playing bass in the band La Routine and collaborating in the electronic duo Tavrvs. In June 2010, he introduced I Cani to the world with tracks like “I pariolini di 18 anni” and “Wes Anderson,” which he uploaded to SoundCloud. These early releases quickly gained traction, leading to a record deal with 42 Records.

Their debut album, Il sorprendente album d’esordio, dropped in 2011, earning critical praise for its refreshing take on Italian pop. This was followed by the albums Glamour in 2013 and Aurora in 2016. With each release, I Cani’s sound evolved, incorporating a variety of influences while retaining its unique Italian pop identity.

I Cani’s music often delves into themes like youth, relationships, and societal observations, delivering these subjects with a clever mix of irony and wit. Their skillful integration of electronic elements with traditional pop structures has solidified their place in the Italian music scene and beyond.
