Gracie Abrams

Gracie Abrams whose real name is Gracie Madigan Abrams was born on September 7, 1999, in Los Angeles County, California. She is an American singer-songwriter recognized for her emotionally charged lyrics and distinct voice. Abrams, the daughter of renowned filmmaker J. J. Abrams and film and television producer Katie McGrath, grew up in a creative environment. With a Jewish background on her father’s side and Irish Catholic heritage from her mother, Abrams was surrounded by diverse cultural influences. She has two brothers, Henry and August.

From a young age, Abrams displayed a keen interest in music, beginning to write her own songs at just eight years old. She attended The Archer School for Girls in West Los Angeles, graduating in 2018 before pursuing international relations at Barnard College in New York. However, she took a break from college after her freshman year to focus on her burgeoning music career.

Abrams signed with Interscope Records and released her debut single, “Mean It,” in October 2019, produced by Grammy-nominated Blake Slatkin. She supported the EP with the This Is What It Feels Like Tour and also opened for Olivia Rodrigo on the Sour Tour. Abrams continued to build her discography, releasing standalone singles like “Mess It Up” and collaborating with Benny Blanco on “Unlearn.”

Her debut studio album, “Good Riddance,” released in February 2023 and produced by Aaron Dessner, was a significant milestone. A deluxe edition of the album was released later that year. Abrams supported the album with the Good Riddance Tour and opened for Taylor Swift on her Eras Tour. Abrams’ song “Cedar,” featured on the soundtrack of “The Buccaneers,” and her collaboration with Noah Kahan on the remix of “Everywhere, Everything” marked her first entry on the Billboard Hot 100.

In April 2024, Abrams announced her second album, “The Secret of Us,” released on June 21, 2024, to widespread critical acclaim and commercial success, debuting at number two on the Billboard 200. The album’s lead single, “Risk,” and subsequent single, “Close to You,” garnered significant attention.

Abrams has been vocal about her struggles with depression and anxiety, using her platform to raise awareness about mental health issues. She has also been an advocate for women’s rights, joining 160 other artists in a full-page ad in The New York Times in 2022, condemning the potential overturning of Roe v. Wade.

With influences from Joni Mitchell, Simon & Garfunkel, Taylor Swift, and others, Abrams has earned admiration from contemporary artists like Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, and Billie Eilish.
