About Geordie Greep
Geordie Greep, born on August 20, 1999, in Walthamstow, London, is an English musician best known as the frontman of the avant-garde rock band Black Midi. With a singular vocal style and an eclectic approach to composition, he has carved out a unique space in modern experimental music.
Raised in a household filled with diverse sounds—from progressive rock to classical and country—Greep developed an early fascination with music. He later attended the BRIT School, where he met Matt Kwasniewski-Kelvin, Cameron Picton, and Morgan Simpson. In 2017, the four formed Black Midi, a band that quickly became known for its unpredictable, genre-defying sound, blending elements of math rock, jazz fusion, and post-punk.
Black Midi’s debut album, Schlagenheim (2019), received widespread critical acclaim, establishing them as one of the most exciting new bands in the experimental rock scene. They followed up with Cavalcade (2021) and Hellfire (2022), further solidifying their reputation for technical brilliance and unorthodox storytelling.
In 2024, after Black Midi disbanded, Greep launched his solo career, releasing The New Sound on October 4 through Rough Trade Records. The album showcased his evolution as an artist, incorporating elements of salsa, jazz, and disco while featuring satirical storytelling inspired by exaggerated male archetypes. Critics have likened his work to that of Frank Zappa and Randy Newman, praising his blend of humor, theatricality, and intricate musicianship.
Beyond music, Greep has a passion for boxing, often comparing the intensity of the sport to the energy of live performance. With his daring creativity and enigmatic stage presence, he remains a compelling force in contemporary music.
