About Dharius
Dharius is the stage name of Alán Alejandro Maldonado Tamez, born on September 24, 1984. He is a prominent Mexican rapper, actor, singer, and songwriter. Dharius made a significant mark in the Latin American hip-hop scene as a member of the influential rap group Cartel de Santa from 1999 to 2013. His contributions to the group and his subsequent solo career have established him as a pivotal figure in Mexican music.
Dharius’s musical journey began with “La Real Academia de La Rima,” which quickly led to his invitation to join “La Artillería Pesada,” a group founded by Fermín IV, the lead singer of Control Machete, a dominant force in Mexican rap at the time. Alongside Babo, another key member of Cartel de Santa, Dharius recorded an album with “La Artillería Pesada” featuring notable international rappers like El Meswy from Spain. Unfortunately, despite the high-profile collaboration, the album was never released for reasons that remain unclear.
In 2002, Dharius’s career took a significant turn when he joined Cartel de Santa as a supporting act during their tour for their first album. This collaboration proved fruitful, and in 2003, the group was invited to participate in a tribute album for the legendary Mexican singer-songwriter José Alfredo Jiménez. Dharius contributed to the song “Ella,” marking his second recording with Cartel de Santa. This track helped the group achieve their first gold record due to its high sales, solidifying Dharius’s role within the group.
During his tenure with Cartel de Santa, Dharius was instrumental in producing several successful albums, including “Cartel de Santa” (2002), “Vol. II” (2004), “Volumen Prohibido” (2006), “Vol. IV” (2008), “Sincopa” (2010), and the live album “Me Atizo Macizo tour 2012 en vivo desde el D.F.” These albums played a crucial role in shaping the sound of Mexican hip-hop and cementing Cartel de Santa’s place in the music industry.
In 2013, Dharius departed from Cartel de Santa, with “Me Alegro de Su Odio” being his final composition with the group. He then embarked on a solo career, releasing his debut solo album “Directo Hasta Arriba” in 2014. This album showcased his unique style and lyrical prowess, earning him a loyal fan base. His follow-up albums, “Mala Fama, Buena Vidha” (2018) and “Cuando Todo Acaba” (2022), further established his reputation as a solo artist.
Dharius’s music is characterized by its raw energy, insightful lyrics, and seamless blending of traditional Mexican sounds with contemporary hip-hop beats. His ability to connect with audiences through his music and his dynamic performances has made him a standout figure in the Latin music scene.
