About DAY6
DAY6 is a South Korean pop-rock band under JYP Entertainment that made its debut on September 7, 2015, with the EP The Day. The group initially consisted of six members: Sungjin, Jae, Young K, Wonpil, Junhyeok, and Dowoon. However, Junhyeok left the band in 2016, and Jae departed in 2021, leaving the band with its current four members. Despite these changes, DAY6 has gained considerable fame for their unique sound and strong involvement in writing, composing, and producing their music. Their debut album peaked at No. 2 on Billboard’s World Album Chart, reflecting the group’s instant impact on the global music scene.
Before officially debuting as DAY6, the band was initially introduced as a five-member group called 5LIVE in 2014. They started gaining attention through appearances on the Mnet survival show Who is Next: WIN and by releasing the song “Lovely Girl” for the soundtrack of the TV series Bel Ami. The band officially became DAY6 in mid-2015 with the addition of drummer Dowoon, rounding out their lineup just before their debut.
Their early success was followed by concerts and showcases both in Korea and internationally, as well as their first live concert, D-Day, held in Seoul in 2015. DAY6’s first overseas event was in Taiwan, and they also held fan meetings in Singapore. The band’s momentum was interrupted when Junhyeok left for personal reasons in 2016, but DAY6 continued as a five-member band, releasing their second EP, Daydream, shortly after his departure. Their performance on M Countdown marked their first appearance on a music show, six months after their debut.
In 2017, DAY6 embarked on an ambitious project called Every Day6, releasing two new songs each month throughout the year. This project added 25 songs to their discography, covering a wide range of genres from hard rock to ballads. It culminated in their first full-length album, Sunrise, which was highly praised and included on Billboard’s list of “The 25 Greatest K-pop Albums of the 2010s.” The track “I Wait” from the project also made it onto Billboard’s “100 Greatest K-pop Songs of the 2010s.” The band expanded their fanbase with their official fan club, “My Day,” and engaged in a North American meet-and-greet tour.
DAY6 continued to grow internationally, making their official debut in Japan in 2018 with the single “If (Mata Aetara).” They held their first concert in Japan and released the album The Best Day featuring Japanese and English versions of their hits. That same year, they released two EPs, Shoot Me: Youth Part 1 and Remember Us: Youth Part 2, further expanding their musical reach. They embarked on their first world tour, Youth, which included performances in 24 cities across Asia, North America, and Europe.
In 2019, DAY6 released The Book of Us series, beginning with the EP Gravity and continuing with the full-length album Entropy. In 2020, DAY6 temporarily halted group activities due to health concerns, but still released The Book of Us: The Demon, which was critically acclaimed. Later that year, they formed a subunit, Even of Day, consisting of Young K, Wonpil, and Dowoon. Despite Sungjin’s military enlistment in 2021, DAY6 continued to release music, wrapping up The Book of Us series with the EP Negentropy. The band’s musical versatility and international success have solidified their place as one of the leading bands in South Korean pop-rock.
