About Chrissy Costanza
Chrissy Costanza is the stage name of Christina Nicola Costanza, born on August 23, 1995, in New Jersey. She is an American singer, songwriter, and musician best known as the lead vocalist and primary songwriter of the rock band Against The Current. Growing up in an Italian American family, Costanza always dreamed of pursuing a career in music. She attended The Village School in Waldwick, New Jersey, for her elementary and middle school years, then moved on to Immaculate Heart Academy in Washington Township, New Jersey, before briefly studying at Fordham University in 2013 and 2014.
In 2011, Costanza’s journey with Against The Current began when she met her future bandmates Dan Gow and Will Ferri through a mutual friend. Together, they started posting covers of popular songs on YouTube, which quickly earned them a loyal online following. Their early success encouraged them to start writing and performing original music, with Costanza primarily handling lyric-writing. The band’s first single, “Thinking,” came out in 2012, marking the beginning of their rapid rise in the alternative music scene. In 2014, they released their debut EP, Infinity, and gained further exposure while touring with artist Alex Goot.
The momentum continued to build as Against The Current signed with Fueled by Ramen in 2015, releasing their second EP, Gravity, which catapulted them onto the international stage with the “Gravity World Tour.” Their debut album, In Our Bones, dropped on May 20, 2016, to widespread acclaim and solidified the band’s place in the pop-rock genre. Throughout this period, Costanza’s charismatic stage presence and songwriting skills drew attention, with the UK-based magazine Kerrang! lauding her as the band’s “fearless frontwoman.” By this time, she was also sharing her experiences in a monthly column for Rock Sound, discussing her life in the music industry and providing insights for aspiring artists.
Costanza’s talents extended beyond her band. She gained recognition in the gaming community through her collaboration with Riot Games, recording “Legends Never Die” for the League of Legends 2017 World Championship. This collaboration marked the beginning of an ongoing relationship with the game, as she returned to perform “Phoenix” for the 2019 World Championship, a song she co-performed live in Paris, and again for the Bilibili New Year’s Eve concert in Beijing. Her work in gaming extended to anime, where she voiced and sang as the character Kyoka Jiro in My Hero Academia, performing songs like “Each Goal” and “Hero Too,” further diversifying her artistic reach.
From July 2020 to May 2021, Costanza hosted the show Guest House on VENN, a streaming media channel, which allowed her to connect with audiences in new ways. She continued collaborating with League of Legends through songs like “Wildfire,” a collaboration with League casters Vedius and Drakos for the 2022 Spring Season of the League European Championship.
Most recently, in 2024, Costanza broadened her musical horizons through collaborations with Square Enix and Yellowcard. She teamed up with Final Fantasy XIV composer Masayoshi Soken and The Primals for the song “Give It All” in Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail. In September, Costanza worked with Yellowcard to create a pop-punk rendition of A Whole New World for Disney’s cover album A Whole New Sound, showcasing her adaptability and passion for genre-blending.
Today, Costanza continues to inspire as an artist with a versatile and evolving career. Her trajectory from YouTube covers to global tours, gaming music collaborations, and crossover projects highlights her unique position in both the rock and pop worlds, making her one of the most dynamic figures in modern music.
