Elmer Figueroa Arce, widely known by his stage name Chayanne, is a Puerto Rican Latin pop singer, songwriter, and actor, born on June 28, 1968. His rise to fame has been marked by a prolific career in music and television, establishing him as one of the most influential Latin music artists. Chayanne’s journey began in his hometown in Puerto Rico, where he grew up as the third of five siblings in a supportive family environment. His father, Quintino Figueroa, worked as a sales manager, and his mother, Irma Luz Arce, was a teacher who passed away in 2014 after a long battle with cancer. Chayanne’s nickname, given by his mother, was inspired by the 1950s American television series “Cheyenne.”

In the late 1970s, Chayanne’s early foray into the music industry was with the group Los Chicos, which became a significant rival to the popular group Menudo. Los Chicos produced several hits, including “Puerto Rico Son Los Chicos” and “Ave Maria,” and toured extensively across Latin America. In 1990, Chayanne released Tiempo de Vals, featuring successful singles such as the title track and “Completamente Enamorados.” His subsequent album, Provócame (1992), solidified his reputation with the title track becoming his signature song and “El Centro de mi Corazón” topping the U.S. Hot Latin chart. He continued his success with Influencias (1994) and Volver a Nacer (1996).

Chayanne’s international recognition grew with Atado a Tu Amor (1998), which earned him a Grammy nomination and featured hits like “Dejaria Todo.” The year 2000 saw the release of Simplemente, which included the top-ten hit “Candela” and the number-one hit “Yo Te Amo.” His 2002 greatest hits album, Grandes Exitos, featured new tracks like “Y Tu Te Vas,” which became a summer anthem and a theme song for a Venezuelan telenovela.

In 2005, Chayanne released Desde Siempre, a second greatest hits compilation, and Cautivo, featuring popular tracks such as “No Se Por Qué” and “No Te Preocupes Por Mí.” His 13th studio album, Mi Tiempo (2007), debuted at number two on the Top Latin Album chart and included the hit single “Si Nos Quedara Poco Tiempo.” Chayanne’s career has also involved a series of international tours and notable performances, including a special appearance at the Miss Universe 2003 pageant.
