About Car Seat Headrest
Car Seat Headrest is an American indie rock band that originated in 2010 in Leesburg, Virginia. Initially, the project was the solo endeavor of Will Toledo, a singer-songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist who recorded his early music in the backseat of his car for privacy.
Toledo’s prolific output between 2010 and 2014 included 12 albums on Bandcamp, with “Twin Fantasy” (2011) standing out as one of his most notable releases. In 2015, he compiled some of his best tracks into “Teens of Style,” marking the start of his professional journey after signing with Matador Records. His 2016 album, “Teens of Denial,” garnered widespread praise and significantly raised the band’s profile.
As Car Seat Headrest became a full band, the lineup was solidified with Ethan Ives (guitar, bass, backing vocals), Seth Dalby (bass), and Andrew Katz (drums, percussion, backing vocals). In 2018, they revisited Toledo’s earlier work with a reimagined version of “Twin Fantasy” titled “Twin Fantasy (Face to Face).” Their 2020 album, “Making a Door Less Open,” marked a shift toward a more experimental sound.
Looking ahead, Car Seat Headrest completed their latest album, “The Scholars,” which is set for release in late 2025. The band’s evolution continues, blending lo-fi indie rock with experimental elements, maintaining a devoted fan base along the way.
