About Blanco
Joshua Emmanuel Pinto João Eduardo, better known as Blanco, is a British-Angolan rapper and singer who has made a significant mark in the UK drill scene. Born on March 8, 1999, in Kennington, South London, Blanco grew up surrounded by the rich music culture of his neighborhood. His passion for music began at an early age, and by 2015, he started pursuing his career, drawing inspiration from influential artists like Skepta and 50 Cent. Blanco gained widespread recognition in 2016 with the release of his track “Jason Bourne,” a move that solidified his place within the drill music scene.
In 2019, Blanco released his debut EP English Dubbed, a project that highlighted his unique fusion of drill and Afrobeat influences. He continued to build on this success with his first mixtape, City of God, in 2021, which received praise for its diverse sound and depth. The mixtape’s title was inspired by the Brazilian film City of God, reflecting Blanco’s global perspective and appreciation for storytelling.
Blanco’s personal journey is equally compelling. Born to Angolan refugees who fled civil war, he moved to the UK via Portugal. For much of his youth, he was unaware of his parents’ refugee status, a background that would later inspire much of his music, resonating deeply with his audience.
In 2023, Blanco released ReBourne, further showcasing his artistic evolution. His rise from the streets of South London to international acclaim highlights his resilience and innovative approach to music, cementing his place as one of the most exciting figures in contemporary music.
