Baby Keem, born Hykeem Jamaal Carter Jr. on October 22, 2000, in Carson, California, is a groundbreaking rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer. Raised in Las Vegas, Nevada, Keem grew up in a musically enriched environment, with his cousin Kendrick Lamar being a major influence on his career. Keem started producing at the age of 13, working with a modest $300 setup he bought off Craigslist, and began recording at 15. His early work, including the 2018 EP Midnight, revealed his emerging sound and growing confidence.

Keem gained major recognition in 2019 with his mixtape Die for My Bitch, which featured the breakout track “Orange Soda.” The song went platinum, propelling him into the spotlight. His versatility as an artist became more evident as he contributed to major projects like Kendrick Lamar’s Black Panther: The Album, Jay Rock’s Redemption, and Beyoncé’s The Lion King: The Gift, further cementing his place in the music industry.

In 2021, Keem released his debut studio album, The Melodic Blue, under the pgLang label, a partnership with Columbia Records. The album was met with critical acclaim, debuting at number five on the Billboard 200 and earning platinum status. His single “Family Ties,” featuring Kendrick Lamar, won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance in 2022.
