B.G.

B.G., born Christopher Noel Dorsey on September 3, 1980, in New Orleans, Louisiana, is a key figure in the Southern hip-hop scene. Growing up in the tough 13th Ward’s Freret neighborhood, B.G. faced significant challenges, including the tragic loss of his father at the age of 12, an event that deeply influenced both his music and his persona.

At just 12 years old, B.G. signed with Cash Money Records after a chance encounter with the label’s founder, Bryan “Birdman” Williams. He rose to prominence as a member of the Hot Boys, alongside Juvenile, Lil Wayne, and Turk. Their 1999 album Guerrilla Warfare became a major success and helped solidify B.G.’s place in the hip-hop world.

As a solo artist, B.G. released several influential albums, with Chopper City in the Ghetto (1999) standing out for introducing the term “Bling Bling” to the mainstream. His music captured the gritty realities of street life and earned him a devoted following. However, his career was marred by legal issues, and in 2012, B.G. was sentenced to 14 years in federal prison on gun possession charges.

After spending over a decade behind bars, B.G. was released in 2023. Since his release, he has expressed a renewed focus on positivity and personal growth.
