Bird’s career began with jazz groups like Squirrel Nut Zippers and Kevin O’Donnell’s Quality Six in the late 1990s. In 1998, he formed Andrew Bird’s Bowl of Fire, a band blending swing, jazz, and folk. They released albums like Thrills (1998) and Oh! The Grandeur (1999), with The Swimming Hour (2001) showcasing a more eclectic musical approach.
Bird transitioned into a solo career with his debut album Music of Hair (1996), followed by Weather Systems (2003), which marked a move towards indie rock.
