Amyl and the Sniffers

Amyl and the Sniffers are a high-energy Australian punk rock band that burst onto the scene in 2016. Hailing from Melbourne, the band is led by the fearless and charismatic Amy Taylor on vocals, with Dec Martens on guitar, Bryce Wilson on drums, and Gus Romer on bass. Their sound is raw, fast, and loud, drawing inspiration from 1970s Australian pub rock, with a modern, no-nonsense punk attitude. The band’s name, a cheeky nod to the inhalant amyl nitrite (aka “poppers”), perfectly captures their wild, rebellious spirit.

True to their DIY ethos, Amyl and the Sniffers wrote and recorded their first EP, Giddy Up, in just 12 hours. This no-frills approach resonated with fans, and their self-titled debut album, Amyl and the Sniffers (2019), catapulted them to international recognition, earning the ARIA Award for Best Rock Album. With anthemic tracks full of attitude and adrenaline, they quickly gained a reputation for their electrifying live shows.

Their 2021 follow-up, Comfort to Me, saw them refining their sound while maintaining their signature aggression. Recorded during lockdown, the album channeled frustration and energy into tighter songwriting and heavier instrumentation. In 2024, they took things a step further with Cartoon Darkness, recorded in Los Angeles. This album experimented with new sonic textures while staying true to their punk roots, proving that the band is always evolving.
