Alonzo

Alonzo, born Kassimou Djae on July 25, 1982, in Marseille, France, is a prominent French rapper, singer, and songwriter known for his powerful voice and dynamic style. Of Comorian heritage, Alonzo was raised in the Plan d’Aou neighborhood in Marseille’s 15th arrondissement, the youngest of seven siblings in a tight-knit Muslim family. His father worked as a sailor while his mother cared for the home, and his upbringing in a multicultural, working-class community strongly shaped his worldview and lyrical themes.

Alonzo’s musical journey started in the late 1990s when he co-founded the influential rap group Psy 4 de la Rime, alongside his cousins Soprano, Vincenzo, and Sya Styles. The group played a major role in shaping Marseille’s hip-hop scene, gaining widespread popularity across France.

In 2009, Alonzo launched his solo career, quickly proving himself as a force to be reckoned with. His solo work blends elements of gangsta rap, trap, and melodic hip-hop, often tackling themes like street life, resilience, and personal growth. Albums like Amour, Gloire & Cité, Capo dei Capi, and Stone have solidified his status as a heavyweight in French rap.

Alonzo has collaborated with a wide range of artists and was a key figure in the 2020 Marseille-based collective album 13 Organisé, which united dozens of local rappers in a celebration of their city’s rap culture.

With sharp lyrics, infectious rhythms, and an unmistakable voice, Alonzo continues to leave a lasting mark on the French music scene.
