About 311

311 is an American rock band known for their genre-blending sound and high-energy live shows. Formed in 1988 in Omaha, Nebraska, the band’s original lineup featured Nick Hexum on vocals and guitar, Jim Watson on lead guitar, Aaron “P-Nut” Wills on bass, and Chad Sexton on drums. A couple of years later, Tim Mahoney replaced Watson on guitar, and in 1992, Doug “SA” Martinez came on board, bringing vocals and turntable skills to the mix—completing the lineup that fans still recognize today.

What sets 311 apart is their fearless fusion of rock, reggae, funk, hip-hop, and alt-metal. They started out releasing music independently, gradually building a loyal underground following. Their big breakthrough came after signing with Capricorn Records in the early ’90s. Their third album, 311 (1995), became a defining moment for the band, going triple platinum thanks to iconic tracks like “Down” and “All Mixed Up.”

Since then, 311 has released fourteen studio albums, including Transistor, From Chaos, Mosaic, and most recently Full Bloom (2024). They’ve consistently made waves on the Billboard charts, with multiple Top 10 albums and hit singles, showing both staying power and evolution.

More than just their recordings, 311 is beloved for their vibrant and positive live performances, often described as a celebration of music, unity, and good vibes. With decades of touring and a devoted fanbase, they’ve carved out a unique legacy in the world of rock that continues to grow.
