Luke Hemmings released a new solo EP titled boy on April 26, 2024. It’s a seven-song collection with a different sound than his work with 5 Seconds of Summer. This alternative/indie EP explores themes of self-discovery, fame, and loss.
Hemmings describes the writing process as being fueled by the constant motion of touring with 5 Seconds of Summer. He wrote most of the songs on boy while traveling, on airplanes and in hotel rooms, capturing the feeling of disorientation and the yearning for emotional grounding.
