Yung LA

Leland Sanford Austin, better known as Yung L.A., was born on March 26, 1986, in Atlanta, Georgia. He rose to fame with his breakout single, “Ain’t I,” featuring T.I. and Young Dro. The track gained significant success, reaching number 47 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and climbing to number seven on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Yung L.A.’s unique sound, combining Southern rap with futuristic elements, quickly made him a standout in the hip-hop scene.

Discovered in 2007 by rapper Young Dro in Atlanta’s Thomasville neighborhood, Yung L.A. signed with Grand Hustle Records and Interscope Records. His debut album, Futuristic Leland, was released in 2009 and included hits like “Futuristic Love (Elroy)” featuring Ricco Barrino. The album helped establish his signature style and solidified his place in the Southern rap movement. Over the years, he released eight mixtapes, further cementing his influence in the genre.

In 2011, Yung L.A. made headlines when he tattooed a local record label’s logo on his face, sparking controversy and leading to altercations with label members. He later covered the tattoo with a Los Angeles Dodgers logo, showing his willingness to make bold, attention-grabbing moves. Despite the controversies, Yung L.A. remained a prominent figure in Southern rap, continuing to impact the scene with his distinct sound and personality.
