About Wisin
Juan Luis Morera Luna, born on December 19, 1978, in Cayey, Puerto Rico, is better known by his stage name Wisin. He is a renowned reggaeton rapper, singer, and record producer, best known as one-half of the dynamic duo Wisin & Yandel. Wisin’s unique and aggressive rapping style has set him apart in the reggaeton genre, earning him significant acclaim and a loyal fan base.
Wisin’s musical journey began when he met Yandel in school. The two shared a passion for music and decided to form a duo in the late 1990s. Their debut album, Los Reyes del Nuevo Milenio, was released in 2000, marking the start of their successful collaboration. The duo’s big break came in 2003 when they signed with Universal subsidiary Machete Music and released Mi Vida… My Life. However, it was their 2005 album Pa’l Mundo that catapulted them to mainstream success, solidifying their place in the reggaeton world.
Following their rise to fame, Wisin & Yandel established their own label, WY Records, and introduced an affiliate group, Los Vaqueros, further expanding their influence in the music industry. Despite their immense success together, the duo decided to take a hiatus in November 2013 after their LÃderes tour. While rumors circulated about a possible split due to differences, Yandel denied these claims, affirming that they were not disbanding but simply taking a break.
During the duo’s hiatus, Wisin pursued solo projects. He released his first solo album, El Sobreviviente, in 2004, which showcased his versatility as an artist. A decade later, he released his second solo studio album, El Regreso del Sobreviviente, in 2014. These solo endeavors allowed Wisin to explore new musical landscapes and further establish his identity as a solo artist. In 2014, he also collaborated with Prince Royce on their Power and Love tour, demonstrating his ability to work successfully with other artists.
The highly anticipated reunion of Wisin & Yandel came in 2018, bringing joy to their fans. They released their tenth studio album, Los Campeones del Pueblo / The Big Leagues, after spending five years apart. This reunion was a significant moment in reggaeton, reaffirming their status as leading figures in the genre.
In addition to his musical achievements, Wisin has also made a mark on television. On July 11, 2018, Telemundo announced Wisin as a coach on La Voz (U.S.), the Spanish-language version of NBC’s The Voice. Joining other renowned artists like Luis Fonsi, Carlos Vives, and Alejandra Guzmán, Wisin’s role as a coach allowed him to mentor aspiring singers and share his extensive knowledge and experience in the music industry.
Wisin’s contributions to reggaeton have been significant, with the duo’s 2009 release, La Revolución, selling three million albums worldwide. His aggressive rapping style and occasional singing have made him a distinctive voice in reggaeton, and his influence continues to grow.
At 45 years old, Wisin’s career is a testament to his talent, perseverance, and impact on the music industry. From his early beginnings in Cayey, Puerto Rico, to becoming a global reggaeton icon, Wisin’s journey is one of dedication and passion for music.
