About Westside Gunn

Alvin Lamar Worthy, better known as Westside Gunn, was born on July 27, 1982, in Buffalo, New York. As the mastermind behind Griselda Records, he co-founded the label in 2012 alongside his half-brother, Conway the Machine, and cousin, Benny the Butcher. Their mission was clear—to put Buffalo’s gritty hip-hop scene on the map.

Westside Gunn made waves in 2016 with his debut studio album, Flygod, an underground classic praised for its raw lyricism and distinctive production. The following year, he and Conway made history as the first Buffalo rappers to sign with Eminem’s Shady Records, a move that brought Griselda to a wider audience.

Gunn continued his rise with albums like Supreme Blientele (2018) and Pray for Paris (2020), both of which showcased his love for 1990s hip-hop, luxury fashion, and intricate storytelling. His 2020 project, Who Made the Sunshine, marked his official debut under Shady Records. In 2021, he expanded into acting with a role in the film Conflicted, further cementing his versatility.

Beyond music, Westside Gunn is a major force in fashion, frequently referencing high-end brands in his lyrics and collaborating with designers to release exclusive merch. A lifelong wrestling fan, he has even appeared at AEW events, walking wrestler Daniel Garcia to the ring in 2022.

In 2023, he dropped his fifth studio album, And Then You Pray for Me, featuring artists like JID, Rick Ross, and Ty Dolla Sign. Though he has hinted at retiring from rapping, his influence on hip-hop, fashion, and culture is far from over.
