Tiwa Savage, born Tiwatope Omolara Savage on February 5, 1980, in Isale Eko, Lagos State, Nigeria, is a powerhouse in the world of Afrobeats. After moving to London at the age of 11, she pursued both her education and a growing passion for music. Savage’s talent led her to Berklee College of Music in Boston, where she further developed her craft on a scholarship.

Her music career took flight after working as a backing vocalist for global stars like George Michael, Mary J. Blige, and Chaka Khan. In 2010, she returned to Nigeria, signing with Mavin Records, where her solo career began to soar. Her debut album Once Upon a Time (2013) produced hits like “Kele Kele Love” and “Eminado,” firmly establishing her as a key figure in Nigerian music.

Tiwa’s style is an eclectic mix of Afrobeats, R&B, pop, and hip-hop, often incorporating English, Nigerian Pidgin, and Yoruba into her lyrics. She has released several successful albums, including R.E.D (2015), Celia (2020), and Water & Garri (2021).

Known as the “Queen of Afrobeats,” Tiwa Savage is also celebrated for her activism, particularly her efforts to support survivors of sexual assault through her foundation, We Are Tired. With her distinct sound and powerful presence, she continues to shape the global music scene.
