About The Marías

The Marías are an indie pop band from the United States, known for their dreamy blend of jazz, Latin, and psychedelic influences. Formed in 2016 in Los Angeles, the group consists of lead vocalist María Zardoya, drummer and producer Josh Conway, guitarist Jesse Perlman, and keyboardist Edward James.

The band’s name is derived from María Zardoya, who was born in Puerto Rico and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. After meeting Josh Conway in Los Angeles, the two quickly formed both a personal and professional bond. Their shared musical vision led to the creation of The Marías, with Zardoya’s bilingual vocals blending seamlessly with Conway’s production expertise.

The band debuted with the Superclean Vol. I EP in 2017, followed by Superclean Vol. II in 2018. Their first full-length album, Cinema, released in 2021, received critical acclaim, earning a Grammy nomination for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical. The album’s success was amplified by collaborations with Bad Bunny and Tainy, which helped propel them into the mainstream music scene.

In May 2024, The Marías released their highly anticipated second album, Submarine. The album explores themes of heartbreak and personal growth, with Zardoya drawing from her own experiences, including her breakup with Conway, while also delving into broader emotional complexities.

The band continues to captivate audiences with their unique sound and heartfelt performances, touring globally and solidifying their place in the indie music landscape.
