Tanerélle Stephens, known mononymously as Tanerélle, is an American singer, songwriter, and model whose music blends R&B, neo-soul, and afrofuturistic influences. Born on April 9, 1994, in Atlanta, Georgia, she was raised by her single mother, growing up as an only child. From an early age, she was drawn to music, inspired by legends like Ray Charles, Outkast, Ludacris, and Usher. At 18, she moved to Los Angeles to study acting, a decision that would shape her creative journey.
In 2015, Tanerélle made her musical debut with the self-released single Siren, setting the stage for her distinctive sound. Determined to maintain artistic independence, she crowdfunded her first EP, 11:11, which dropped in 2017. Her ethereal vocals and poetic lyricism quickly gained attention, leading to her music being featured in hit shows like Spike Lee’s She’s Gotta Have It and Issa Rae’s Insecure.
Beyond music, Tanerélle expanded into film scoring, co-composing the score for the 2022 movie Nanny, which earned her a nomination for Outstanding Original Score at the 2023 Black Reel Awards. In 2020, she embraced body positivity by posing for Playboy, challenging beauty norms and advocating for self-love.
In May 2024, she signed with Republic Records and released her latest EP, Electric Honey, showcasing her evolution as an artist.
