T-Pain

T-Pain, born Faheem Rasheed Najm on September 30, 1984, in Tallahassee, Florida, is an influential American singer, songwriter, rapper, and record producer. Widely known for revolutionizing the use of Auto-Tune, he transformed the tool from a pitch correction mechanism into a signature vocal effect, which became synonymous with 2000s R&B and hip-hop. ​

T-Pain’s journey began in the music scene of Tallahassee, where he started as a member of the rap group Nappy Headz. He later adopted the stage name “T-Pain,” short for “Tallahassee Pain,” reflecting his personal experiences in Florida’s capital. In 2005, he released his debut album Rappa Ternt Sanga, which introduced the world to his innovative use of Auto-Tune, particularly through the breakout single “I’m Sprung.” His follow-up album, Epiphany (2007), produced the smash hit “Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin’),” cementing his position as a trailblazer in the music industry. ​
