Deante Adam Johnson, known professionally as Summrs, is an American rapper and singer born on November 18, 1999, in Lafayette, Louisiana. He is credited with pioneering the pluggnB subgenre, a fusion of trap, rap, and R&B music. Summrs first began his music career in 2016, and in January 2017, he dropped his debut track “Crushing On Leah” on SoundCloud, which marked the beginning of his rise in the underground music scene.
He gained significant attention with his 2018 mixtapes, including Bellworld, Bellworld 2, Devotion, and Revived. His 2019 single “Shouldve Known,” featuring Cash Bently, garnered even more acclaim, with Pitchfork praising it as a must-hear rap song. In June 2022, Summrs released his debut full-length album Fallen Raven, which included hit tracks like “Swing Ya Pole” and “So Much Cheese,” both of which earned mainstream recognition.
Throughout his career, Summrs has collaborated with a variety of artists, including TyFontaine and Yeat, contributing to tracks like “Mother of My Kids” and “Countup.” He is also associated with the Slayworld collective, alongside artists like Autumn! and KanKan.
