Sugam Pokharel

Sugam Pokharel, born on September 20, 1979, in Mangalbare, Morang, Nepal, is one of the most influential voices in modern Nepali pop music. Though he never imagined himself becoming a singer, his interest in music sparked during his school years, inspired by legends like Sanjay Shrestha, Deep Shrestha, and Harish Mathema. His move to Kathmandu for higher studies became a turning point, where he gradually found his path in the music industry. Despite early struggles and a few setbacks with his initial recordings, Sugam’s determination paid off with the release of his debut album Mero Sansaar in 2001, which catapulted him into stardom.

Since then, Sugam has continued to evolve as an artist, delivering hit albums like Highway, Sutra, and Sugam Yatra. Known for his smooth vocals and heartfelt lyrics, his music effortlessly blends contemporary pop sounds with the soul of Nepali tradition. Beyond being a singer, he’s made his mark as a composer, lyricist, and former radio jockey, using his platform to support emerging talent and promote Nepali music. His role as a judge on Season 4 of Nepal Idol further showcased his deep understanding of the industry and commitment to nurturing new voices.
