Spiritbox

Spiritbox is a Canadian metal band formed in 2016 by vocalist Courtney LaPlante and guitarist Mike Stringer, both former members of Iwrestledabearonce. Wanting full creative control, they launched the project in Victoria, British Columbia, and introduced their sound with a self-titled EP in 2017. Originally a duo, they expanded in 2018, adding bassist Bill Crook and drummer Ryan Loerke, which led to the release of the “Singles Collection” EP in 2019. This helped them gain a growing online fanbase, fueled by visually striking music videos and their genre-blending sound.

Spiritbox quickly made a name for themselves with a style that fuses progressive metal, djent, and metalcore, often incorporating electronic elements. LaPlante’s dynamic vocals, seamlessly shifting from haunting melodies to brutal screams, became a defining feature of their music. Their breakthrough came with the 2020 single “Holy Roller,” followed by “Constance,” both of which showcased their versatility. This momentum led to their debut album, Eternal Blue, in 2021, which debuted at No. 13 on the US Billboard 200, solidifying their place in modern metal.

The band’s lineup changed over time—Zev Rosenberg replaced Loerke on drums in 2020, and Josh Gilbert took over bass duties in 2022 after Crook’s departure. They continued evolving, releasing the Rotoscope EP in 2022 and The Fear of Fear in 2023. Their next full-length album, Tsunami Sea, is set to drop on March 7, 2025. Known for pushing boundaries, Spiritbox has earned nominations for Juno and Grammy Awards, proving their impact on the metal scene.
