About Shenseea

Chinsea Linda Lee, born on October 1, 1996, in Jamaica, is known professionally as Shenseea. An Afro-Asian Jamaican dancehall singer, Shenseea has risen to prominence through her dynamic fusion of dancehall, hip-hop, reggae, and pop, earning international acclaim and a devoted fan base.

Shenseea’s early life was marked by a blend of cultural influences. Born to a Jamaican mother and a Korean-born father, whom she is estranged from, Shenseea was raised in Kingston, Jamaica. From a young age, she demonstrated a passion for music and aspired to become a singer. Her journey began with a focus on education, graduating from Mona High School and briefly attending Excelsior Community College (Exed) in Kingston, where she studied Entertainment Management. However, financial difficulties led to her leaving college before completing her degree. Despite these challenges, Shenseea’s determination to succeed in music remained steadfast, driven by her desire to provide a better life for her son, Raj.

Her musical career began to take shape in 2015 when she was signed by the music label Rockstar. Shenseea first gained attention by remixing Vybz Kartel’s song “Loodi” and performing at Reggae Sumfest. By 2017, she was performing on the festival’s main stage and had begun to tour internationally. Her breakthrough continued with significant wins at the 2016 Youth View Awards, including “Young Hot and Hype Artiste” and “Break Out Celebrity of 2016.” Her collaboration with Sean Paul on the single “Rolling” and subsequent tour with him further established her in the dancehall scene.

In 2018, Shenseea’s career reached new heights with features on Christina Aguilera’s album Liberation and a collaboration with Vybz Kartel on “Secret (Remix).” Her 2019 single “Blessed,” featuring Tyga, garnered widespread attention, accumulating over 58 million views on YouTube by April 2022. She continued to make waves in 2020 with “IDKW,” a collaboration with Rvssian, Swae Lee, and Young Thug, and “Lighter,” a viral hit with Tarrus Riley and Rvssian.

A major milestone in Shenseea’s career came in 2021 when she collaborated with Kanye West on his album Donda. Her contributions to the songs “Pure Souls” and “Ok Ok pt 2” earned her a nomination for Album of the Year at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards, marking her first Grammy nod. That year, she also signed with Wassim “Sal” Slaiby, who manages prominent artists like The Weeknd and Doja Cat, and won Best Reggae Act at the MOBO Awards.

In 2023, Shenseea continued to build her reputation, performing at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and joining the Tropical Takeover Tour with Sean Paul and Myke Towers. Her song “Pon Mi” gained popularity on TikTok, and her collaboration with Fireboy DML on “Diana” earned her a NAACP Image Award for Outstanding International Song. In January 2024, she released “Hit and Run,” featuring Masicka and Di Genius, which became one of her biggest hits, accumulating over 60 million views on YouTube.

Shenseea’s second studio album, Never Gets Late Here, was released on May 24, 2024. The album, featuring collaborations with Wizkid, Coi Leray, Anitta, and others, blends dancehall with various genres including Afrobeats and Latin trap. It debuted at number four on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart and reached number one on the US iTunes Album charts, underscoring Shenseea’s growing influence in the global music industry.

In addition to her music career, Shenseea has secured endorsements with major brands like Telecom, Firm Flow, Boom, and Pepsi-Cola JA, further cementing her status as a prominent international artist.
