Roy Kim

Roy Kim, born Kim Sang-woo on July 3, 1993, in Seoul, South Korea, is a talented singer-songwriter and radio host who gained widespread recognition after winning the fourth season of Mnet’s Superstar K in 2012. This victory launched him into the spotlight and set the stage for his successful music career.

His debut album, Love Love Love (2013), introduced the popular track “Bom Bom Bom,” which quickly became a hit. Building on this success, Roy Kim released Home (2014) and The Great Dipper (2015), both of which were well-received by fans and critics alike. In 2017, he further established his presence in the Korean music scene with his EP Blooming Season.

Known for his soothing vocals and emotional lyrics, Roy Kim’s music blends elements of acoustic, folk, ballad, and pop genres. He has also contributed memorable tracks to popular TV soundtracks, such as Reply 1994 and Pinocchio, which earned him accolades like Best Original Soundtrack at the 2015 APAN Star Awards.

Roy Kim pursued a balanced life, studying sociology at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., while simultaneously growing his music career. After completing his mandatory military service in the Republic of Korea Marine Corps, he made his return with his fourth studio album, And, in October 2022. The album was met with positive reviews, reflecting his continued growth as an artist.

Throughout his career, Roy Kim has won multiple awards, including Best New Artist at the 2013 Mnet Asian Music Awards and the 2014 Golden Disc Awards.
