After her parents divorced, Romina spent much of her childhood between Mexico and Europe, attending boarding schools across England, Switzerland, and Italy, which helped shape her multicultural outlook.
Romina began her acting career quite young, making her debut at just 14 in the Italian film Menage all’italiana. She soon gained recognition for her performances in European cinema, including a notable role in the 1969 film Marquis de Sade: Justine. Despite some early typecasting, she was determined to be seen as a serious artist beyond her youthful image.
In 1967, while filming Nel Sole, she met Italian singer Albano Carrisi. Their relationship blossomed, leading to marriage in 1970 and the formation of the iconic musical duo Al Bano and Romina Power in 1975. Together, they enchanted audiences worldwide with their heartfelt pop ballads like “Felicità,” “Sharazan,” and “Ci sarà.” The pair represented Italy twice in the Eurovision Song Contest and won the prestigious Sanremo Music Festival in 1984.
Romina and Albano’s personal life faced tragedy with the mysterious disappearance of their eldest daughter, Ylenia, in 1994, which deeply affected their family and eventually led to their separation in 1999 and divorce in 2012. Despite these hardships, Romina has remained creatively active, exploring painting, writing, and acting. Fluent in five languages and a practitioner of Tibetan Buddhism, she continues to inspire with her resilience and artistic spirit.
