About Reneé Rapp

Reneé Rapp is the stage name of Reneé Mary Jane Rapp, born on January 10, 2000, in Huntersville, North Carolina, is a multi-talented American singer, songwriter, and actress known for her powerful vocal ability and compelling stage presence. From a young age, Rapp demonstrated a passion for performing, which led her to participate in various school productions. She attended Hopewell High School, where she not only excelled in theater but also showcased her athleticism as a member of the varsity women’s golf team. However, it was her transfer to Northwest School of the Arts that marked a significant turning point in her artistic journey. There, under the guidance of her theater teacher Corey Mitchell, Rapp’s talent blossomed, earning her widespread recognition.

In 2018, Rapp’s portrayal of Sandra in her school’s production of Big Fish won her the Best Actress award at the Blumey Awards, Charlotte’s prestigious musical theater event. This victory propelled her onto the national stage, where she competed at the Jimmy Awards in New York City and emerged as the winner of the “Best Performance by an Actress” award. This accolade not only brought her a $10,000 scholarship but also highlighted her as a rising star in the theater world.

Rapp’s breakthrough came in 2019 when she was cast as Regina George in the Broadway production of Mean Girls, a role that would define the early part of her career. Initially taking on the role for a limited run, her performance was so well-received that she was brought on permanently later that year. Rapp’s ability to embody the iconic character, coupled with her dynamic vocal performances, earned her widespread acclaim. However, the production was cut short in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and it was later announced that the show would not reopen.

Despite the challenges of the pandemic, Rapp’s career continued to flourish. In 2021, she was cast as Leighton Murray, one of the lead roles in Mindy Kaling’s teen comedy series The Sex Lives of College Girls on Max. Her portrayal of Leighton, a complex character grappling with her identity, further showcased her versatility as an actress. However, by 2023, Rapp decided to step away from the show to focus more on her music career, citing the anxiety that the acting environment caused her.

Rapp’s musical career took off with the release of her debut EP, Everything to Everyone, in November 2022. The EP, characterized by its emotive lyrics and Rapp’s soulful voice, resonated with fans and critics alike. The success of the EP led to her first tour, which sold out across multiple cities, and laid the foundation for her debut studio album, Snow Angel, released in August 2023. The album was a critical and commercial success, solidifying Rapp’s place in the pop music landscape. She followed up with a deluxe version of Snow Angel in November 2023, featuring additional tracks that further demonstrated her growth as an artist.

In addition to her artistic achievements, Rapp has been open about her personal struggles, including her battle with an eating disorder and her journey with mental health. In 2024, she publicly came out as a lesbian, having previously identified as bisexual. Her openness and advocacy for mental health and LGBTQ+ issues have made her a role model for many.

Rapp’s career has been marked by significant achievements in both theater and music, but as of 2024, she has chosen to focus on her music, leaving acting behind. Her story is one of resilience, talent, and a deep passion for her craft, making her one of the most exciting young artists of her generation.
