Primal Fear is a German power metal band formed in 1997 by vocalist Ralf Scheepers, formerly of Gamma Ray, and bassist Mat Sinner, known for his work with Sinner. The band came together after Scheepers’ unsuccessful audition to replace Rob Halford in Judas Priest, prompting him to team up with Sinner to create a band that embraced the classic heavy metal sound they both loved.

The band released their self-titled debut album, Primal Fear, in 1998, which quickly gained critical acclaim for its high-energy performances and traditional metal style. Their follow-up, Jaws of Death (1999), further cemented their standing in the European metal scene. However, it was with their third album, Nuclear Fire (2001), that they gained international recognition, charting in multiple countries and earning a coveted spot at the Wacken Open Air festival.

Over the years, Primal Fear has seen various lineup changes but has consistently maintained a strong presence in the heavy metal community. Their music blends elements of power metal, speed metal, and traditional heavy metal, featuring high-pitched vocals, fast guitar riffs, and anthemic choruses. Notable albums in their catalog include Unbreakable (2012), Delivering the Black (2014), and Metal Commando (2020).

In 2023, they released Code Red, and their much-anticipated album Domination is set for release in September 2025. Known for their relentless energy and dedication to the classic metal sound, Primal Fear remains a powerful force in the heavy metal world.
