Taurus Tremani Bartlett, known professionally as Polo G, was born on January 6, 1999, in Chicago, Illinois. Raised in the Marshall Field Garden Apartments in the Old Town neighborhood, he grew up in a challenging environment that profoundly influenced his music career. The son of Taurus Bartlett and Stacia Mac, who also serves as his manager, Polo G is the second of four siblings. His family background and experiences in the Chicago neighborhood played a crucial role in shaping his lyrical content and musical style.

Polo G’s musical journey began in 2018 when he released his debut track “ODA” on YouTube. He quickly gained traction on SoundCloud with his single “Gang with Me,” which attracted millions of plays. His early success was bolstered by the release of “Welcome Back” and “Neva Cared,” leading to his breakout single “Finer Things.” This song, written while he was incarcerated, garnered significant attention and views. His subsequent hit, “Pop Out” featuring Lil Tjay, achieved commercial success by peaking at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and played a pivotal role in his signing with Columbia Records.

Polo G’s debut album, Die a Legend, was released on June 7, 2019. The album, which includes popular tracks such as “Deep Wounds,” “Through da Storm,” and “Effortless,” debuted at number six on the Billboard 200 and was certified platinum by the RIAA. His follow-up album, The Goat, released on May 15, 2020, continued his success, debuting at number two on the Billboard 200. The album featured ten songs that charted on the Billboard Hot 100, including notable tracks like “Flex” featuring Juice Wrld and “Be Something” featuring Lil Baby.

In 2021, Polo G’s third studio album, Hall of Fame, marked a significant milestone in his career as it became his first number-one album on the Billboard 200. The album included the hit single “Rapstar,” which debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. The success of Hall of Fame was further complemented by the release of its deluxe edition, Hall of Fame 2.0, which added new songs and collaborations with artists such as Lil Baby and Moneybagg Yo.

Despite his rising career, Polo G faced legal challenges in 2023. On August 15, 2023, he announced his fourth album, Hood Poet (stylized as H.O.O.D P.O.E.T.), but its release was delayed due to his arrest on serious charges including kidnapping and armed robbery. The album was eventually released in August 2024. Alongside his music career, Polo G launched a clothing line called Polo.G Capalot and remains a prominent figure in the Chicago drill scene.

Throughout his career, Polo G has been known for his melodic style and vivid storytelling, often addressing tough subjects such as mental health and social issues in his lyrics. His influences include Lil Wayne and Tupac Shakur, as well as Chicago rappers Lil Durk and G Herbo.
