*NSYNC is an American boy band that was formed in 1995 in Orlando, Florida, by Chris Kirkpatrick. The group consisted of Kirkpatrick, Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Joey Fatone, and Lance Bass. Initially, they found success in Europe before making a significant breakthrough in the U.S. market. Their self-titled debut album was first released in Europe in 1997, where they gained a strong following, and was later released in the United States with the lead single “I Want You Back.” The album established them as a new force in the pop music scene, leading to a series of hit singles and increasing their visibility in the U.S.

The band’s rise to stardom reached unprecedented heights with the release of their second album, No Strings Attached, in 2000. The album was a cultural phenomenon, breaking sales records by moving over 2.4 million copies in its first week, which was the highest first-week sales by any album at that time. Behind the scenes, the band faced a tumultuous legal battle with their former manager, Lou Pearlman, in 1999. They accused Pearlman of taking an unfair share of their earnings, leading to a very public lawsuit. The legal dispute was a pivotal moment for the band, allowing them to sever ties with Pearlman and secure their future by signing with Jive Records.
