About Nessa Barrett

Nessa Barrett, born on August 6, 2002, in Galloway Township, New Jersey, is an American singer-songwriter who has made significant strides in the music industry since her rise to fame. Of Puerto Rican descent, Barrett faced alienation during her adolescence as she was one of the few children raised by a single mother following her parents’ divorce. Despite these challenges, she found solace and expression in music, a passion she has pursued since she could walk and talk.

Barrett’s early exposure to music came from her father, Drew Barrett, a rapper, actor, and motivational speaker who maintained a home studio. Her creative journey began to take shape in 2019 when she started posting videos on TikTok. These videos quickly garnered attention, leading to a recording contract with Warner Records. In July 2020, Barrett released her debut single, “Pain,” a piano-based ballad that marked her official entry into the music world.

Following “Pain,” Barrett continued to release a series of singles that showcased her evolving artistry. “If U Love Me” came out in October 2020, followed by a dark rendition of “Santa Baby” in December of the same year. Her collaboration with Jxdn on the track “La Di Die,” produced by Travis Barker, explored the pitfalls of fame and was performed live on both Jimmy Kimmel Live! and The Ellen DeGeneres Show in April 2021. Another notable single, “Counting Crimes,” was released in June 2021 and dealt with themes of moving on from toxic relationships.

Barrett’s debut EP, “Pretty Poison,” was released on September 10, 2021, coinciding with World Suicide Prevention Day. The EP featured seven new tracks, including “I Hope Ur Miserable Until Ur Dead,” which became her first entry on the Billboard Hot 100, debuting at number 88. In February 2022, she released “Dying on the Inside,” followed by “Die First” in June 2022, a heartfelt dedication to her late best friend, Cooper Noriega.

Her debut studio album, “Young Forever,” was released in October 2022. The album delved into personal themes, addressing mental health, bullying, and the challenges of fame. Tracks like “Madhouse” and “Tired of California” highlighted Barrett’s lyrical depth and emotional vulnerability. The success of “Young Forever” led to the announcement of her Young Forever Tour, which began in February 2023.

In 2023, Barrett released several singles, including “BANG BANG!,” “American Jesus,” and “lie,” all of which were included in her second EP, “Hell Is a Teenage Girl,” released in July 2023.
