Her musical journey began remarkably early—she recorded her first album at just nine years old, setting the stage for a lifelong passion for music. As a self-taught artist, Mimicat spent her teenage years refining her songwriting and vocal skills, splitting her time between school and the recording studio.
At 15, she stepped into the competitive music scene under the stage name Izamena, participating in the 2001 Festival da Canção with the song Mundo Colorido. Though she didn’t advance to the finals, the experience fueled her drive to pursue a career in music. She later expanded her artistic knowledge, earning a degree in Sound and Image in 2009, a step that would help shape her distinct creative vision.
Her breakthrough came in 2014 with the release of her debut album For You under Sony Music Portugal. The album’s lead single, Tell Me Why, gained nationwide recognition after being featured in the telenovela Jardins Proibidos. She followed up with Back in Town in 2017, further cementing her place in the Portuguese music scene with her bold mix of pop, soul, and jazz influences.
A defining moment in her career arrived in 2023 when she won Festival da Canção with her self-composed song Ai Coração, earning the honor of representing Portugal at Eurovision in Liverpool. Her performance captivated audiences, showcasing her charisma and powerful stage presence. Outside of music, Mimicat balances life as a mother of two and has even worked in real estate, proving that her talents extend far beyond the stage.
