LUIS BROWN

José Luis Brown, affectionately known as “Tata,” was a legendary Argentine footballer and coach, born on November 10, 1956, in Ranchos, Buenos Aires. Renowned for his exceptional skills as a central defender, Brown made a significant impact on both club and international football. His commitment to the game earned him a lasting place in the history of Argentine football, particularly for his crucial role in Argentina’s 1986 FIFA World Cup victory.

Brown began his professional career with Estudiantes de La Plata in 1975, where he became a central figure for the club, playing over 300 matches. During his time there, he helped the team secure major titles, including the Metropolitano championship in 1982 and the Nacional championship in 1983. His journey also took him abroad, with stints at Atlético Nacional in Colombia, Boca Juniors, Deportivo Español, and European clubs such as Stade Brest in France and Real Murcia in Spain.

On the international stage, Brown earned 36 caps for Argentina between 1983 and 1989. He was an integral part of the squad that triumphed at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico. In the final against West Germany, Brown scored a pivotal header, marking his sole international goal and securing his place in football history.

After retiring from playing, Brown transitioned into coaching, where he managed various teams, including Los Andes and the Argentine U17 national team. His coaching career reached a high point when he served as an assistant coach for Argentina’s U20 team, which won a gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Brown passed away on August 12, 2019, at the age of 62 after battling Alzheimer’s disease, leaving behind a remarkable legacy in the world of football.
